Tanchyo Clan Sheet
Tanchyo Clan Sheet Back

Clan Tanchyo is a one of the more unique groups from Kagejima. While making ranged attacks is more of a support strategy in other clans, Tanchyo features it as one of their main strategies. Due to this they are relatively flimsy up close and personal. By utilizing the high speed of most Tanchyo choices to position correctly the clan can exploit their powerful ranged attacks to deliver attacks that your opponents will have a hard time paying you back for.

To the choices:

Chunin - With good speed, a high attack, decent defense and a built in ranged attack the Tanchyo chunin clocks in as one of the most useful and expensive chunins. Their ranged attack is also super awesome at 4 dice out to 6 spaces. One of the best ranged attacks in the game. If you plan on going really ranged attack heavy then Gust of Heaven is for you as it allows you to keep repositioning your chunin out of opposing threat bubbles. If you want to go with the more fighty route then Wind of Blades is great as it will allow your Chunin to more easily deal with enemy models that are trying to get to your Yajiri.

Kaiken - While few in number, Tanchyo Kaiken are the fastest in the game with attack and defense equal to a Tora Kaiken’s. They are limited and somewhat expensive but they can team well with your chunin to provide mobile hard hitting close fighters.

Kunoichi - While the Tanchyo already have great movement overall the 8 movement on their Kunoichi is nothing to turn your nose up at the only other model with this high of a movement is the Tora Kunoichi. With the right advances a Tanchyo Kunoichi can become a very fast moving slippery threat.

Yajiri - While most clans rely on their Kaiken to provide the main ninja for their teams the Tanchyo are all about their Yajiri. They are slightly slower than many of your other choices and have low defense but their powerful ranged attack can be super devastating. Since their ranged attack can be used to push away opposing models they can be used to clear the way to objectives for your kaiken and kunoichi as well as having good chances to injure and stun opposing models with ranged attacks.

Oni - The Tanchyo Oni is the fastest of all the Oni, has a good attack and respectable defense. With the ability to move over other models they can bring their big influence zone to bear well in formations along with your other models. The Tanchyo Oni will normally be used somewhat like their Kaiken to add more hefty fighters to back up the clans Yajiri.

Madoushi - While I have been banging on about the clans Yajiri the Tanchyo Madoushi is another stand out model in the clan. With pretty much the same stats as a Kaiken and other abilities on top of that it is pretty easy to see why they cost 16 Koban a piece. Blessing of the Tengu can be game breaking as it buffs up ranged attacks as well as helping out close fighters that the clan has. If you take Blessing of the Tengu then remember to position your Madoushi so that your other models can defend them. Your opponent will be looking to get the Madoushi off the board. Wind Walk is also very powerful but it’s tricksy repositioning is a defensive move to get your models out of bad spots.

Karura is a useful pick. He functions as a super Kunoichi that can move over and through models terrina and influence zones with ease.

Zenyo Ryu is the most powerful ranged attacker in the game and packs a punch when attacking normally. It is important to note that she doesn’t have resilient. This was done since it was especially frustrating for players to finally catch her in hand to hand, after all her shooting, and have her make her resilient rolls thereby not having to deal with the consequences of being caught out.

The Tanchyo are a finesse clan that requires careful play due to their all around low defense. However by exploitation of their movement terrain and ranged attacks the Tanchyo can create fairly one sided engagements. Some Yamazaru teams can have real problems even catching Tanchyo models at all.
