Descendents of the Deeproot Elves who were swallowed by the creation of the Nether Rifts. When the Rift first opened, the elves became prey. The invading evils hunted them for pleasure. Moreover, their connection to the sustaining life of Crystalia weakened or vanished altogether.
In order to survive, they needed to escape or align with the powers around them, and escape was impossible. And so these once pure creatures spawned to guard the Deeproot Tree and nurture all living things became creatures of destruction and despoilment, their hearts turning wicked and cruel. They survived even flourished, within the Dark Realm. The Nether Elves turned to martial might. Their society has been refashioned into a warrior cult, where only those who accept their strict codes of martial discipline and “honor” are allowed to exist. They will sweep any who refuse to submit to their new world order.
Over the centuries, Nether Elf society has grown surprisingly intricate; indeed, one would more properly say Byzantine. A few scholars (mostly elven, it must be said) believe that this is a reaction to their current home. As the Dark Realm seems to be a dark and twisted reflection of Crystalia, so the transplanted elves seem to have created a corrupted mockery of the society they lost. Where elven kingdoms are nuanced and layered, Nether Elf domains are physical and social labyrinths. While elven crafts are simple and elegant, Nether Elves construct devices that are no less effective but needlessly wicked and cruel.
They take a special pleasure in hunting natives of their former world, on either side of the Rift. Many among their former comrades and cousins have never forgiven them for this betrayal. Some among the Nether Elves have never forgiven themselves.
In your games of Super Dungeon, the nether elves are a cohesive fighting force which use stealth to augment their attacks and force Heroes to close in to engage. All nether elves possess the signature ability Dread, which augments their offensive capabilities when they are benefitting from Stealth. Unsurprisingly, several key nether elf models, including their spawning point, possess the ability to generate auras of Stealth. The Midnight Tower includes two spawning points of nether elves, each consisting of a Tower Stalker which can teleport into other models’ shadows and deliver debilitating status effects, Tower Arbalists whose bolts chill the very soul, and Tower Blackblades whose martial discipline ensures their fellow Nether Elves are always in the proper position.
Some elves developed the gift to communicate with the demonic spiders which lurked in the Dark Realm. These Spider Speakers spawn swarms of poisonous spiders into battle alongside the nether elves. Key among the abilities of the spiders is the capability to weave webs which create difficult terrain hazards, allowing the Consul to control the dungeon in an all new and dynamic way. The sneaky Shadow Spinners can even weave webs of pure shadow, granting stealth and perfectly synergizing with their nether elf allies.
Arcadian Nether Elves
Arcadian nether elves are nomadic by nature and enjoy a thriving culture around horsemanship. Even among the Crystalian nobility, many say Arcadian stallions are the finest in all the realms. In contrast to many other nether elves, Arcadian nether elves have regular and mostly peaceful dealings with the various other cultures which call the dunes home. This is likely due to the harsh nature of the dunes. What meager resources it provides must be carefully cultivated and maintained, even through warfare. Despite this, Arcadian nether elves are wholly devoted to the Dark Consul and the Midnight Queen, ready to answer their call without hesitation.
